Banks NAACP Legislative Liaison opened up the forum with why he became
involved, which was to impart change that would impact society and the
corresponding issues of minorities and people of color. He stressed the
importance of advocacy and joining the conversation on important issues
effecting us as a society at large and our communities. Vote where you sleep…,
get involved locally, let your voice and energy that you bring to the conversation/space
be you platform for change. Issues addressed ranged from Trayvon Martin,
miscarriages of justice occurring in our country, to mass Incarceration in the
age of colorblindness. Student and panel discourse was held in a Socratic
method so all felt included and welcome to share. It’s always interesting when
the multiplicity of tongues that you have in an academic environment come
together to give voice to advocacy and how to go about making positive changes
, not only for the advancement minorities but all of our nation’s inhabitants.
